Wreaths Across America will be returning to Bakersfield National Cemetery this year, albeit in a slightly different format with respect to current COVID-19 pandemic and public safety guidelines.
The event, scheduled for December 19 at 9 a.m., will honor nearly 6,750 service members buried in the cemetery who place veteran balsam wreaths on tombstones. According to a press release from the organization, this year’s ceremony will undergo special changes, including:
• There will be no public ceremony on site
• Instead, a virtual ceremony will take place on the Facebook page Wreaths Across America – Bakersfield at 9:00 am.
• Family members who have ordered grave-specific wreaths can pick them up from 9 a.m.
Wreaths across America said those interested in sponsoring a wreath can do so online at www.waabakersfield.org or by calling (661) 360-1899. The press release states that around 780 wreaths had been sponsored by Monday afternoon.
The organization added that it places more than 2.2 million sponsored wreaths annually in over 2,200 participating locations across the country to honor fallen service members.
