VISALIA, Calif. (KGET) – A Bakersfield man died along with another person after a crash Friday afternoon near Visalia.
Just before 1:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said an accident had occurred on Highway 99 north south of Avenue 48. Officers say the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet was heading north on 99 when approaching a 2003 Toyota pulling a trailer off the back of the highway.
The CHP said the Chevrolet then collided with the rear of the trailer, causing the 2003 Toyota to drive out of control onto the east side of the freeway and eventually tip over. One passenger in the Toyota, a 30-year-old man from Bakersfield, was unbuckled and was ejected.
The man suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A 27-year-old woman from San Diego also died in the Toyota after the accident, according to the BHKW. The Toyota driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured and stayed at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol don’t seem to be factors in the crash, according to the department.
