BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Bakersfield’s Second Saturday is a monthly event where community members can support local businesses and explore downtown. Held tomorrow, it has amazing food, vendor pop-ups, live Instagram sessions, and even free t-shirt screen printing.
Shannon LaBare, co-chair of The Hub (second Saturday sponsorship organization), said the second Saturday was the brainchild of Councilor Andrae Gonzales. She said Gonzales first got the idea when he “saw a lot of businesses downtown doing some really cool things and wanted to celebrate”.
Every month the Hub of Bakersfield publishes a map highlighting the businesses in the city center that have special discounts, deals, or experiences. The map includes information for all participating companies so that participants can plan their route for the day.

While there are plenty of great restaurants out there, the second Saturday isn’t just for local eateries. In Your Wildest Dreams Consignment is one of the companies participating on the second Saturday, but they will also house over 20 local vendors on their front lot on Saturday.
In Your Wildest Dreams, owner Dixie Brewer explains that “the growth of this event has imploded over the years.” Brewer credits her granddaughter Chloe with the addition of running the event.
If you’re looking for a fun and walkable weekend downtown, check out Second Saturday.
