The ‘Bloom’ mural brings a message of hope to the ladies in East Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) – Under a noisy flyover in East Bakersfield, a message rings louder than anything.

“No matter who you are, no matter where you live, you can be what you want,” said Councilor Andrae Gonzales.

This message is now linked to a new mural entitled “Bloom” that will appear on the Beale Avenue flyover. Gonzales said this project is designed to send a message of hope and empowerment to the women and young girls of East Bakersfield.

Commissioned by The Hub of Bakersfield and the Arts Council of Kern, the mural features a colorful array of flowers in bloom, as well as portraits of local girls who have worked on neighborhood projects in the community. The mural was painted by local artists Brandon Thompson and Jennifer Williams-Cordova.
