LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KGET) – A Bakersfield man accused of killing two women in Southern California in the 1980s is currently on trial in LA County.

Horace Van Vaultz, 65, was tried on Tuesday and is due to return to court on April 19. He is convicted of two murders after being arrested by Burbank police in 2019. He is charged with killing Selena Keough in the town of Montclair in 1981 and Mary Susan Duggan in Burbank in 1986.

Vaultz’s case is the first in LA County to be prosecuted for a genetic genealogy in which detectives can access commercial DNA databases, load DNA material from the crime, and point to and collect DNA from a suspect.
