The Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission wants to save the dome

The Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission says the dome shouldn’t be demolished because it’s a piece of history.

The letter, sent on August 30th, states that the architecture and history of the Dome have had a significant impact on the history and culture of Bakersfield. The commission urges owners to consider reusing the space and keeping the architecture intact rather than demolishing the building.

The dome was sold to the Geo Group in early July. The space will then be used to expand Mesa Verde’s ICE processing center.
