Search for missing students believed to be taking place in the Bakersfield area on Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – The search for a missing college student in downtown Bakersfield continues this weekend.

Dane Elkins – a 21-year-old engineering student at the University of California at Santa Cruz – went missing in December. His last known location was the Interstate 5 and Templin Highway area in Castaic, where his car was found abandoned while his wallet and cell phone were still in it.

However, Elkins’ family believe he is currently in the Kern County area and may be homeless. A search party will be looking for Elkins in Mill Creek Park on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The family said last year Elkins began traveling around the state after facing distress over the COVID-19 pandemic. You are concerned about his sanity.

Elkins is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 170 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. His family asks anyone who sees him to call 911 and take a photo or video of him if possible.
