BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – On Thursday, law enforcement officials will honor peace officials who lost their lives in the field.

The Bakersfield Police Department will hold a ceremony outside Police Headquarters on Truxtun Avenue in downtown Bakersfield at 6am. All Truxtun Avenue lanes will be closed between H Street and Eye Streets during the event.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will honor fallen MPs at its own ceremony. A ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Office Memorial Monument at KCSO headquarters on Norris Road. The ceremony is public.

A nationwide memorial is planned for downtown Bakersfield at noon. The California Highway Patrol is presiding over the ceremony with BPD and KCSO officials in attendance.

A 21-gun salute and a transfer by CHP and KCSO will take place during the ceremony. The public is invited to participate and is asked to maintain social distance and wear masks for the event.

The monuments will be broadcast live on KGET’s Facebook pages on Thursday.
