BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A fire displaced five people and badly damaged a home near Flower Street and Palm Drive in East Bakersfield as high temperatures on Saturday night made the gunfight difficult.
City and county firefighters were called for a fire report on a building in the alley near Palm Drive near Kern Medical at around 10:20 p.m. Firefighters saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the building. The flames spread to a neighboring house and damaged a vehicle. It prompted the firefighters to set off a second alarm and more resources to put out the fire.
Joe Appleton, chief of Kern County’s Fire Brigade Battalion, said Saturday night’s heat was an issue for firefighters. The crews had to be turned out to avoid exhaustion.
Five people were driven from the fire. No injuries were reported.
