City council discusses DOJ allegations against the Bakersfield Police Department

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – California lawmakers are working to create a banking institution that will provide a toll-free bank account with no penalty for all Californians, especially in underserved communities.

AB 1177 proponents say that if this new BankCal program were passed, it would be the first nationwide program in the country to offer this access to banking. The bill, which has not yet been put to the vote, has the support of a wide variety of Democratic lawmakers from across the state.
