BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Cal State Bakersfield celebrated its 50th anniversary at a Kern County’s Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday.

The school’s first day of instruction was October 1, 1970. A proclamation recognized October 1 of that year as the fifth decade of the provision of education at the university.

“We have grown significantly since then and are very proud of the education we continue to provide, the alumni who improve the community and the future that lies ahead,” university officials said in a letter to the board of directors.
