BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – The Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary, in partnership with the Golden Valley High School Interact Club, has painted a mural in the Kern Bridges youth home in southwest Bakersfield.

Almost 24 volunteers started work on the painting this weekend near the intersection of Ming Avenue and Stein Road. The mural reflects a wall of butterflies in the headquarters of the group home in downtown Bakersfield. Local mural painter Alex Gallardo was asked to design the mural and do the painting. Gallardo’s previous work includes the Frida Kahlo and Butterfly mural on Niles Street and Union Avenue and the Welcome to Wasco City mural.

“The butterflies take turns with Kern Bridges,” said Gallardo. “I wanted to represent different children, different races and different ages. We still have plans to add more. “
