Bike Bakersfield, Councilor of Kern, Kern County Public Works is preparing for Kern County Bike Month 2021

BAKERSFIELD, California – Bike Bakersfield, the Kern Council of Governments and Kern County Public Works and the coalition of active transportation partners are preparing for Kern County Bike Month 2021.

Every year in May, bicycle coalitions and clubs celebrate cycling and active transport in all its forms, bicycles, trikes, pushbikes, e-bikes, scooters and especially pedestrians.

Bike Month sponsorships are used to reserve facilities for events, reserve or provide food or refreshments, and provide incentives and prizes for participation that also support local businesses.

The activities of the month are as follows:

May 1st, 10-11 a.m., kick-off party
Join elected officials and local bike clubs to ride from Beach Park to Liberty Bell Downtown in solidarity.

Celebrate nonprofits at heart with us by signing up at to see how you can support your favorite local nonprofits.

May 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cafe Smitten Cycling and Swap Meet
Visit us on the second Saturday at Café Smitten Downtown for a community exchange meeting! Set up your own table, equipment, and parts to sell or trade. Followed by a cruise downtown.
May 19, 6 to 9 p.m., Ride of Silence
Chain Cohn and Stiles proudly sponsors our annual Ride of Silence. Ride with us in solidarity to remember the life lost to traffic violence, especially those killed while cycling on public roads.
May 21, 6-9 a.m., bike to work day
Drive to work or before you log into your Zoom meetings for Bike to Work Day 2021! Head to Bike Bakersfield, local bike shops, and bike clubs across the city on the Kern River Parkway to freshen up and make your morning ride more enjoyable.
May 22, 11 a.m., Alley Cat / On Bike Scavenger Hunt
Meet us in the shop for a fun scavenger hunt on a bike using the bike-ready streets of Bakersfield. Prices and games included!
May 26th, 7pm, full moon ride
Meet us at Beach Park for a communal sunset cruise on the Kern River Parkway to Lengthwise Brewing in Market Square!
