So you like to take photos and are new to Bakersfield or are you from here thinking, where are some nice places to take a quick photo?

Look no further, I took a little stroll around downtown Bakersfield and found some great places.

First is the Fox Theater.

This place is a Bakersfield staple. With historical acts like BB King, Ray Charles and Merle Haggard on the stage of comedy greats like Bernie Mac, George Lopez and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias This place is a must see if you want to see a great show so that people can get a laugh from the streets.

Here you can take the classic pictures that you see in the movie in front of the big sign.

Plus, you can fill up like old Hollywood and snap a photo that featured some of the greats!

Next the Nile.

Although I’ve never been there personally, I’ve heard from friends and people in the newsroom that this is a beautiful place to go to concerts and churches.

And similar to the Fox Theater, the sign lights up at night and it’s BEAUTIFUL.

So don’t be shy, pull out the camera or selfie stick and snap a picture full of memories.

Now for the streets, where we can take a look at one of the many murals downtown.

When I walked my feet got tired from mural to mural, there is so much great artwork scattered across every block that you would go crazy.

From large patriotic artworks that scale the sides of the building to small and time-changing drawings, the artworks on walls, benches and street corners are as diverse as the people.

Taking a picture here gives you the feel of city photography. With the nooks and crannies and artwork behind you, you’ll feel like a model.

Now for the cute jobs littered the streets, the little trucks

These little stand alone really bring a smile to any driver, just don’t hit the car in front of you.

These cars were put together with the help of community members and artists and, like the murals, show what Bakersfield is really about. Each piece shows a different side of the community.

If you want some fun on the weekend, why not come downtown and try to find all the trucks! Tweet @ 23ABC and @JusGilbert!

Now for the park.

While honestly I’m not a park guy, I can’t deny that a good bench and silence aren’t good for the soul.

The parks are also a great place for you to show off your photography skills while battling light, clouds, and the environment.

From Hart Park to Mill Creek Park, you’re sure to find the scene for your wedding, party, or just everyday adventure here. Each park has its own taste.

Finally the famous Padre Hotel.

Words cannot express the popularity of this place. When I moved here I was told to visit this place, have breakfast and check out the night life. And let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed.

This place is home to many weddings, parties, quinceaneras, and more. A quick search on Instagram will surely give you an insight into what the venue, hotel and bar has to offer.

I would recommend any beginner or professional photographer to take photos here. The hotel offers you a mix of modern and old fashioned architecture that is sure to make your selfie stand out.

So there you have it. My short list of great places to take a selfie, photo, or drawing.
