Bakersfield residents bury the time capsule to remember those lost to COVID

BAKERSFIELD, California – Dozens gathered in Greenlawn Cemetery Thursday morning to remember the community members we lost to the pandemic.

Mayor Karen Goh and other city officials buried a time capsule in Greenlawn.

Guests and participants were allowed to write notes about their loss and put them in the capsule.

Kern County Celebrates Veterans Day Today we begin redemption. Yes, we feel the loss, we feel the pain of loved ones who have passed away, but let’s take it back. Take back what COVID stole from us and replace it with hope and healing, Mayor Goh said.

Mayor Goh also called the ceremony a day of healing.
