BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – The Bakersfield Police Department says a Facebook account was removed after it was reported that he made “unprofessional” comments while posing as the department.

In a Facebook post, Bakersfield police said the now-disabled account was posting comments on local news feeds posing as a department. The department says the account used BPD’s profile photo to deceive other users.

It wasn’t immediately clear which comments were made by the account or on which Facebook pages the comments were made.

The department is reminding social media users to look for review marks that indicate official accounts from local agencies.

The post thanked the social media users who reported the fake account, notified the department, and determined that the comments “weren’t real reflections from your local police department.”
