Bakersfield Faculty is happy to announce a complete Early Faculty program for all college students in Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, California – Bakersfield College is partnering with high schools in Kern County to offer a full suite of courses for 9th-12th grade students as part of the Early College Summer 2020 program.

This program is for students who want to begin their college degree while in high school.

The Early College Summer 2020 courses are designed to keep students informed during the COVID-19 pandemic and will be held online as social distancing continues during the summer months.

The courses include tutoring and other support services for academic students.

“Early College is a great opportunity for Kern County’s students to jump into college this summer,” said Steven Watkin, executive director of outreach and school relations at Bakersfield College. “The Early College Summer 2020 program enables students to save time and money by earning college credits while they are in high school. By the fall, they will be on their way to completing their studies with credits that can be transferred to an Associate or Baccalaureate program. ”

The courses that will be offered until Early College Summer 2020 are tuition-free and cost minimal.

“Kern County has a long history of partnering between educational institutions to break down barriers and support student learning at all levels,” said Dr. Dean McGee, Assistant Superintendent of the Kern High School District. “Early College makes the transition to higher education seamless for our students and puts them on a path to a rewarding career. We’re always looking for ways to equip our students for success, and the Early College Summer 2020 program does just that. ”

Early College is a program designed to increase college graduation rates across the county.

Historically, Kern County had a low average rate of 16% and an even lower rate of 9% in rural areas.

Enrollment for early college summer 2020 began April 1st.

Students can get a laptop from the Laptop Loaner Program if they don’t have one.
