The Bakersfield Dome is no longer like the historic building that was built as a boxing arena in Central Bakersfield in the 1940s has now been completely demolished.
The Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission said in September that the dome should not be demolished as it is a piece of history.
The letter, dispatched on August 30th, stated that the architecture and history of the Dome had a significant impact on Bakersfield’s history and culture. The commission urged owners to consider reusing the space and keeping the architecture intact rather than demolishing the building.
The dome was sold to the Geo Group in early July. The space will be used to expand Mesa Verde’s ICE processing center.
