BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA. – “I just wanted to do something for the church,” said Justin Salinas.
Salinas started their Cake It With Justin business a little over two years ago. He brought some friends together in his mother’s kitchen and taught them how to decorate a cake.
“From that point on, all I could see was the magic that was beginning to unfold. It was that opportunity for people to try something new, “he said.
Now Salinas has over 21,000 followers on Instagram and teaches various baking courses all year round.
“When you come to a Cake It With Justin class, it’s about letting go of your guard, having fun, maybe laughing at yourself at the end of the night, and then enjoying your goodies,” he said.
Salinas was previously on Food Network and a few weeks ago he was on HBO Max’s new show “Baketopia”.
“When you go into the Baketopia kitchen it’s sprinkles and glitter and sparkles and colors, and of course I mean the amazing hostess Rosanna Pansino. I was kind of in heaven, “said Salinas.
On the show’s first challenge, he made Galaxy Donuts. Then he had to make a geode cake.
“It had this outside setting that it was fantasy in, an Alice in Wonderland style decoration with geode formations in it. It was [tiers] of lime green and purple and red and pink. I really do, “said Salinas.
On the first challenge, he won $ 1,000 and said he couldn’t wait to see all the options open to him.
“I never say no to anything. When it comes to baking it with Justin and where to take it, I really just said yes to everything that comes my way, “Salinas said.
