Baba’s Hot Chicken opens Bakersfield location

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – It’s no secret that some downtown Bakersfield shopkeepers are wary of crime as many have reported an increase in issues such as vandalism since the pandemic began. Some shopkeepers say it is time to tackle corporate crimes in downtown Bakersfield by reviving the block-to-block program. Organizers want the city to provide private security to keep businesses safe as Bakersfield police force is stretched thin.

“We need a little extra private security right now,” said Dixie Brewer, chief block captain of the Bakersfield Downtown Business Association. “We want our BPD to tackle the bigger issues, not come down to remove a homeless man from my sidewalk who may have a drug problem.”
