Amazon retrofits vacant Kmart as a last-mile facility in Bakersfield, California

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. – The City of Bakersfield announced that Amazon will convert an empty big box retail property at Wilson Road 3500-3600 in Bakersfield into a last mile building. The new facility will create around 200 new permanent jobs.

The 93,000-square-foot property that was previously a Kmart is undergoing a $ 20 million renovation. Amazon is expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2021. Renovations include a new roof and parking lot, improved lighting, landscaping and the addition of roller doors.

According to Amazon, Amazon is stepping up its last mile delivery efforts to shorten customer delivery times and bring new innovations to customers.
