1 person killed on train in NW Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A person died after being hit by a train in Northwest Bakersfield on Sunday evening, according to BNSF.

A BNSF spokesman said the collision happened just before 6:30 p.m. on the railroad tracks near Santa Fe Way north of Renfro Road. According to the BNSF, the person was on the tracks at the time of the crash.

The person, described by local Bakersfield authorities as an older teenager, possibly in their early twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was reported on CHP’s Traffic Incident Information Page that the person concerned was an adolescent.

Few details of the collision were available on Sunday and the BNSF said it was investigating the cause of the collision.
